Amazon launches all-women delivery station in R’mundry

Visakhapatnam: Building on its commitment to empower women with meaningful work opportunities, Amazon India on Wednesday announced the launch of its largest all-women delivery station in India, which will be operated by a delivery service partner at Rajahmundry in Andhra Pradesh.

The delivery service partner (DSP) programme is a last-mile delivery model where Amazon India partners with small and mid-sized businesses (SMBs) in the hinterlands of the country to deliver packages to the customers. For many partners, this programme is their first entrepreneurial venture.

The newly launched station is the second delivery station in the State aimed at providing job opportunities to close to 50 women from the region as Amazon gets ready for the festive season. This will also help deliver Amazon packages to customers in neighboring areas like Morampudi, Lalacheruvu, Danavaipeta, Prakash nagar, Tilak road, and among others, the company stated in a release.

The first all-women station in Andhra Pradesh was launched in November, 2021 in Piduguralla town of Guntur district.

The launch of this delivery station in Andhra Pradesh not only enables Amazon India to further deepen its reach to customers ahead of the festive season, but also provides growth and work opportunities for delivery service partners and the associates they hire. These include opportunities ranging from station managers, process associates and delivery associates.

Amazon has introduced several measures to ensure a safe workplace for women by creating awareness about health and safety, and building various feedback mechanisms, along with a dedicated helpline number for associates to dial in for any support or help needed during the day.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Karuna Shankar Pande, Director, Amazon Logistics, India said: "At Amazon India, we are committed to provide women with equal access to work, growth opportunities, and resources that help them broaden their horizon. The launch of India's largest all-women delivery station in Andhra Pradesh reiterates our commitment to invest and create opportunities for women in the State."
