Visakhapatnam: As part of its massive expansion plan, low-cost carrier AirAsia has announced the introduction of a direct flight from Visakhapatnam to Kuala Lumpur from April 26.

This is preceded by the launching of a direct flight from Visakhapatnam International Airport, the largest in Andhra Pradesh to Bangkok from April 9 for which it has already started booking tickets.

AirAsia continues to expand its vast network from India to Malaysia, announcing the long-awaited resumption of flights from Visakhapatnam to the bustling Kuala Lumpur, as the only airline in Malaysia with direct connectivity between the two cities. AirAsia guests can fly from Visakhapatnam to Thailand’s capital city, Bangkok directly with a thrice-weekly frequency starting from April 9. Both Malaysia and Thailand are offering free visa on-arrival to Indians.

The decision to improve connectivity from Visakhapatnam to international destinations thereby providing good connectivity to Australia, Singapore, Vietnam, China and other countries is greeted by AP Air Travellers' Association (APATA) president K Kumara Raja and vice-presidents DS Varma and O Naresh Kumar, Andhra Tours and Travel Association president (TTAA) K. Vijay Mohan and secretary P Srinivas Kumar, Visakhapatnam Airport Director (in-charge) Raja Ram.

At present, Visakhapatnam has a direct flight by Scoot to Singapore. The airport authorities are in touch by foreign airlines to operate flights to Dubai, Ho Chi Minh City and Colombo.

Vijay Mohan told Bizz Buzz that now onwards international tourist expos and marts should be organised by the stakeholders in collaboration with AP tourism authorities to popularise Buddhist sites and picturesque beach locations and valleys of North Coastal Andhra to ensure good occupancy by foreigners as well as Indians settled/working in Malaysia and other ASEAN countries. He said there is big scope to promote tourism to Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Laos and Cambodia.

AirAsia announced on Friday that it will operate three times weekly flights from Visakhapatnam Malaysia’s capital city, Kuala Lumpur. A city that needs no introduction, Kuala Lumpur is the jewel of Southeast Asia, home to ‘Merdeka Tower 118’, the world’s second tallest tower, a melting pot of vibrant cultures and some of the world’s oldest rainforests.

To mark the resumption of this brand new route, flights to Kuala Lumpur from Visakhapatnam are on sale from now till February 14 with a starting fare of only Rs.4,999, all-in-one-way, and just RM199 from Kuala Lumpur to Visakhapatnam for travel between April 26, 2024 and March 19, 2025.
