James Gunn’s Superman (2025), which released in Indian theatres on July 11, is making headlines again — but this time for the wrong reasons. The makers have announced its OTT release on August 15, sparking outrage among fans who believe the move will hurt its box office run and weaken theatre-going culture.
Box Office Performance So Far

- Overseas: $248.7 million
Top overseas markets include the UK ($32.2M), Mexico ($21M), Brazil ($16M), Australia ($14M), France ($11M), Spain ($8.7M), India ($7M), Korea ($6.2M), and Japan ($5.8M).
While it hasn’t broken all-time superhero records, Superman stands as 2025’s biggest superhero hit and the third-highest grosser of the year, behind Jurassic World: Rebirth ($800M) and Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning ($595M).
OTT & Home Release Details
The film will stream on Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home from August 15 in India. Physical editions — 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD — will be available from September 23.
James Gunn confirmed the news on social media, writing:
“Superman is coming to your homes this Friday, 8/15. Available now for pre-order. Or catch it while it's still in theaters!”
