Apple TV+ has confirmed that Season 3 of its hit espionage thriller Tehran will premiere globally on January 9, 2026, with new episodes releasing weekly. The season debuted earlier in Israel in late 2024, where the series originated, and arrives internationally more than a year later amid strong anticipation from global audiences.

The new season marks a major casting addition, with Hugh Laurie joining the series alongside returning star Niv Sultan, who reprises her role as Mossad agent Tamar Rabinyan. Apple TV+ has also announced that Tehran has been renewed for a fourth season, ensuring the story will continue beyond the upcoming instalment.

Season 1 recap: A mission gone wrong

Tehran debuted in 2020 as a high-stakes spy thriller centered on Tamar Rabinyan, a Mossad hacker and field agent sent on a covert mission inside Iran. Disguised as an Iranian civilian, Tamar is tasked with disabling Iran’s air defense systems to enable an Israeli airstrike on a nuclear facility.

The operation quickly unravels, leaving Tamar stranded in Tehran and forced to navigate the city’s underground networks to survive. As she reconnects with her Iranian roots and forms alliances with local dissidents, Tamar becomes increasingly conflicted about her mission. Season 1 ends with heavy losses on both sides and Tamar fully exposed, hunted by Iranian intelligence while questioning her loyalty and identity.

Season 2 recap: Moral dilemmas and a devastating cliffhanger

Season 2 raises the stakes as Tamar is given a chance at extraction—only if she completes another dangerous mission. Now pursued relentlessly by Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, led by a determined new commander, Tamar must decide how far she is willing to go to secure her freedom.

The season delves deeper into Tamar’s moral struggle, blurring the line between duty and conscience. Her relationships with allies and handlers fracture under pressure, and the cost of espionage becomes increasingly personal. Season 2 concludes with a major cliffhanger, leaving Tamar’s fate uncertain and setting the stage for the events that follow in Season 3.

Season 3: New enemies, higher stakes

Season 3 picks up in the aftermath of that unresolved ending, with Tamar facing fresh threats and shifting alliances. Hugh Laurie joins the cast in a key role, adding a new dynamic to the series’ geopolitical chessboard, though details about his character remain under wraps.

With trust in short supply and international tensions escalating, the season explores the consequences of Tamar’s past decisions and pushes the story into even more dangerous territory.

Looking ahead

With Tehran already renewed for Season 4, Apple TV+ is signaling long-term confidence in the series. The renewal ensures that the show’s intricate spy narrative will continue beyond Season 3, allowing the story to fully unfold after the shocking events of Season 2.

Tehran Season 3 premieres globally on Apple TV+ on January 9, 2026, with weekly episode releases.
