YouTuber With Over a Million Subscribers Arrested in Espionage Case

In another alarming case of alleged espionage, Jasbir Singh, a popular YouTuber from Punjab with over a million subscribers, has been arrested for reportedly spying for Pakistan. Singh runs the channel JaanMahal Video and was taken into custody by Punjab Police in Rupnagar.
Authorities claim Singh had established contact with a Pakistani intelligence officer identified as Shakir, allegedly affiliated with the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). Investigators say Singh visited Pakistan three times and that multiple Pakistani phone numbers were discovered on his devices.
He is also reported to have attended the Pakistan National Day celebration at the Pakistani Embassy in New Delhi—raising further concerns over his connections.
Singh’s name has also surfaced in connection with Jyoti Malhotra, another YouTuber arrested last month under similar charges. Malhotra, known for her channel Travel with Jo, had also visited Pakistan multiple times and was believed to have developed links with ISI operatives.
Investigations have uncovered messages pointing to these alleged ties, including a WhatsApp conversation in which Malhotra, 33, seemingly requested her handler to arrange her marriage in Pakistan.
These arrests are part of a broader crackdown by Indian intelligence and law enforcement agencies following recent national security threats, including the Pahalgam terror attack. More than a dozen individuals across India have been detained on suspicion of sharing sensitive information with foreign operatives.
