Who Is Raj Kushwaha? 21-Year-Old Arrested in Murder of Indore Businessman Raja Raghuvanshi

In a chilling twist to the case of the missing Indore couple, police have arrested 21-year-old Raj Singh Kushwaha in connection with the murder of businessman Raja Raghuvanshi, whose body was found in Meghalaya on June 2. Kushwaha is one of four accused now in custody, as authorities piece together what they believe was a premeditated act involving multiple individuals — including Raja’s own wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi.
What We Know So Far
According to Vivek Syiem, Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills, Raj Kushwaha was reportedly with Sonam at the time of the crime. The couple had traveled to Meghalaya for their honeymoon and went missing on May 23. Days later, Raja’s body was discovered in a gorge, while Sonam remained untraceable until she was found late on June 8 at a roadside eatery on the Varanasi-Ghazipur highway in Uttar Pradesh.
Police now suspect that Sonam orchestrated the murder, allegedly enlisting the help of Raj Kushwaha and other associates.
The Arrests So Far
Meghalaya Director General of Police Idashisha Nongrang confirmed that three individuals had been arrested across Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh in connection with the murder case. The fourth accused was apprehended later in Sagar District.
Those arrested include:
Akash Rajput (19) from Lalitpur, UP
Vishal Singh Chauhan (22) from Indore
Raj Singh Kushwaha (21) from Indore
An additional suspect detained in Sagar district
Sonam Raghuvanshi surrendered to authorities in UP
Who Is Raj Kushwaha?
Raj Singh Kushwaha is a 21-year-old resident of Indore. He is alleged to have worked under Sonam’s family. According to Vipul Raghuvanshi, Raja’s brother, Kushwaha was employed by Sonam and may have played a central role in the crime.
“He worked for Sonam, which raises serious suspicions about her involvement,” Vipul told news agency ANI.
Sonam’s father, a Sunmica business owner in Madhya Pradesh, also confirmed that a person named Raj was associated with his warehouse operations until recently.
Investigation Ongoing
Police suspect the crime was committed on May 23, shortly after the couple arrived in Meghalaya. Investigators believe the group fled the state soon after. The full motive and the sequence of events are still under investigation, though police say preliminary findings indicate a well-planned conspiracy.
“We are connecting the dots,” SP Vivek Syiem said. “Once the suspects are in Meghalaya, we’ll have a clearer picture.”
The case has shocked Indore and drawn national attention due to the involvement of close associates — and possibly even a spouse — in what appears to be a brutal betrayal.
