New Delhi had welcomed the arrival of Russian premier Vladimir Putin on Thursday, the day when he arrived at RAshtrapati Bhavan for the ceremonial reception there. Later, both the leaders held bilateral discussions at the Hyderabad House. Breaking protocol was the serving Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, who warmly extended both handshake and hug and emphasized, “India is on the side of peace” on the Ukraine issue.
Global challenges, defense, economy, and regional stability, were the issues discussed; the prime minister highlighted the age-old cooperation between the two countries on the subject of counterterrorism, suggesting that the two countries have stood together “shoulder to shoulder” in combating terrorism. On his part, Putin extolled the 12 percent increase in bilateral trade in the last year and gave assurances that Russia will be ready to extend the lifeblood of fuel access to India’s expanding economy.
The two leaders also witnessed the exchange of agreements and reviewed progress under the 22nd Inter-Governmental Commission on Military and Technical Cooperation, where the Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh, noted advances in joint defence projects. Modi described India–Russia friendship as "steadfast like the Dhruva star," and Putin thanked India for presiding over a longer period in the coalition for peace with regard to the Ukraine situation.
Both sides expressed their mutual very firm hope that their partnership will now strengthen global trust and manifest solutions to shared challenges.
