Vinod Kambli rushed to hospital after health deteriorates; admitted in critical condition

Former Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli has been hospitalized after a sudden decline in his health. He was admitted to Akruti Hospital in Thane on Saturday night, following concerns raised by his recent appearance at the unveiling of his ex-coach Ramakant Achrekar's statue in Mumbai's Shivaji Park. At the event, Kambli was seen clutching his friend Sachin Tendulkar's hand, a gesture that sparked concern among fans.
Reports indicate that Kambli, aged 52, is currently in stable condition but remains in a critical state. Further details about his ailment are still awaited.
Kambli has faced several health challenges in recent years. Around three weeks ago, he made a rare public appearance at the memorial event for Achrekar, where his slurred speech and physical condition led to speculation about his health. This prompted support from former teammates, including Kapil Dev and Sunil Gavaskar, who suggested rehabilitation.
In a recent interview, Kambli disclosed his struggles, including a severe urine problem that led to his hospitalization. He recounted an incident where he collapsed and was helped by his son, Jesus Cristiano, and his family. Kambli also mentioned experiencing dizziness and revealed that he had undergone two heart surgeries in 2013, financially supported by Tendulkar.
Vinod Kambli and Sachin Tendulkar share a long-standing friendship, dating back to their childhood. The duo famously made headlines with a record-breaking 664-run partnership while playing for Sharadashram Vidyamandir and later represented India together in the 1992 and 1996 World Cups.
Kambli played 17 Tests and 104 ODIs for India, scoring four Test centuries, including two double centuries. He is known for his remarkable achievement of becoming the first Indian to score consecutive double centuries in Test matches.
The cricketing community wishes Vinod Kambli a speedy recovery.
