TS govt enhances Medical Devices Park’s offerings

Hyderabad: The Medical Devices Park, an industrial estate for medical devices on the outskirts of Hyderabad, spread across 300 acres, has over 60 companies operating. To support MSMEs in scaling-up their manufacturing and R&D operations, the Telangana government is further enhancing its offering by providing plug-and-play facility on the basis of single tenant, multi tenant, and built-to-suit spaces, said Telangana IT Minister D Sridhar Babu.
Speaking on the sidelines of the inaugural of Medtronic Engineering and Innovation Center’s expanded facility here, Sridhar Babu told Bizz Buzz, “We have a list of companies who have expressed interest but we did not put it on priority as the infrastructure development is taking place. We expect it to be occupied completely over the next three months.”
Extending an invitation to Medtronic to consider establishing a manufacturing unit within the Park, he said, “Keeping in view the demographic profile of the State, the government assures companies like Medtronic with ancillaries needed and affordable pricing for end production. This ecosystem will be encouraged in the new MSME policy, so that devices manufactured here will be affordable.”
On a query about the timeline for introducing the announced policies, the IT Minister said: “Life Sciences, (medtech) MSME, and Industrial policies will come up in two months, once the elections are over. We are fine tuning them as we should have a proper budget to present it, so that the incentives and subsidies planned for MSMEs should be in solid form, as the last government did not release subsidies for the last five to six years, that has shattered the MSMEs. You will see special mentions for women entrepreneurs too.”
Medtronic, healthcare technology company inaugurated its newly expanded Medtronic Engineering and Innovation Center (MEIC) in Hyderabad. The expansion is part of the investment of around Rs 3,000 crore over five years to scale up and expand the R&D facility, and to employ 1,500 people. Currently, more than 900 engineers from STEM background are working at the Center.
