Trimbakeshwar Temple in Nashik to undergo ASI-led conservation before Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2026.

As preparations for the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2026 begin, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) is set to start chemical conservation work on the historic Trimbakeshwar Temple in Maharashtra’s Nashik district post-monsoon. The temple, located about 30 km from Nashik city, is one of the twelve revered jyotirlingas dedicated to Lord Shiva and attracts devotees from across the country.
An ASI official confirmed that the conservation project, sanctioned in advance of the Kumbh Mela, will begin with the thorough cleaning of the temple structure, followed by chemical treatment to preserve its ancient stonework. Minor structural issues, including small cracks, will also be addressed during the process. The work is expected to be completed by February 2026, well ahead of the religious gathering.
The Simhastha Kumbh Mela, held once every 12 years, will commence on October 31, 2026, with ceremonial flag hoisting at both Trimbakeshwar and Ramkund in Nashik. In anticipation of the massive footfall, the Maharashtra government has also introduced a bill in the state legislature to establish the Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela Authority, aimed at streamlining preparations and management of the event.
