In response to reports that some Indian users could now access TikTok's website, government officials clarified on Friday that the Chinese short-video platform's ban is still in effect.

"The Indian government has not issued an order to unblock TikTok. Officials told ANI that any such news or statement is untrue and deceptive.

Numerous users reported that while they could access the TikTok website, they were unable to log in or view videos. Additionally, the app is still not available in India on the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store.

The history of the TikTok ban

Following the clashes in the Galwan Valley, TikTok and 58 other Chinese mobile applications, such as WeChat and Helo, were banned on June 29, 2020. National security was cited by the Ministry of Electronics and IT.

the applications were "prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of state, and public order," according to the statement.

Intelligence organisations had expressed concern at the time that these platforms were gathering private user information and possibly sending it abroad.

Recent Interactions between China and India

Both China and India have recently taken actions to improve bilateral relations in spite of the ongoing ban. Through Lipulekh Pass, Shipki La Pass, and Nathu La Pass, border trade has resumed. Additionally, both countries are working to finalise an updated Air Services Agreement and have agreed to resume direct flights. Additionally, initiatives are being made to streamline the visa application process for travellers, including media, businesspeople, and tourists.

TikTok is still prohibited in India as of right now, and rumours that it will reappear are untrue.
