Telangana’s growth drive

  • IT, pharma focal points of economic growth
  • Generating employment opportunities key
  • Continuity in development policies

Hyderabad: In a bid to position Telangana as a global investment destination, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, who embarked on his inaugural visit to the 54th World Economic Forum (WEF) annual meeting in Davos, unveiled a strategic vision for attracting investments and outlined key sectors such as IT, pharmaceuticals as focal points for the State's economic development.

Speaking to a television channel in Davos in Switzerland, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy also talked about creating employment opportunities for nearly 30 lakh youngsters in the State.

He also said that Telangana government will establish pharmaceutical villages in 10-12 clusters across the State, coupled with a concerted effort to develop top-tier universities in the vicinity of Hyderabad.

Brushing aside regional competition for investments, Revanth Reddy said: "We are inviting investors from worldwide to the State. We want to compete with the world, not with Karnataka, Maharashtra, or Andhra Pradesh. For me, the world is one village."

This global perspective underscored Telangana's ambition to transcend local rivalries and position itself as a formidable player on the international economic stage.

Stability in governance emerged as a crucial factor in attracting investments, with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy highlighting the divergent nature of his policies compared to the preceding administration led by K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR). He stressed the need for continuity in development policies, citing the longstanding progress in the IT and pharmaceutical sectors in the State since 1993.

When asked about how the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra flagged from Manipur to Maharashtra would impact the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Revanth Reddy expressed optimism that the yatra will attract voters to either the Congress or the INDIA bloc.

‘We will win 14 MP seats’

On Lok Sabha elections, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy exuded confidence that Congress would win 14 out of 17 Lok Sabha seats in Telangana. “We will easily win 14 MP seats and our primary rival will be BRS, not the BJP,” he said. Dismissing the notion of an easy victory for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP in 2024 elections, he pointed out the outcome of 2004 when BJP's Atal Bihari Vajpayee suffered defeat. Highlighting the recent electoral victory against KCR in Telangana, he emphasized the need for dedicated effort from the party in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
