Telangana has secured a major investment deal from global tech giant Amazon. Its cloud arm, Amazon Web Services (AWS), has signed a landmark framework agreement with the Telangana government to expand its data centre infrastructure in Hyderabad. The agreement was announced during the Telangana Rising Global Summit held on December 8–9.

Under the pact, AWS will invest $7 billion (around ₹63,000 crore) over the next 14 years to scale up its cloud data centre operations in Hyderabad. The Telangana government will facilitate infrastructure, facilities and business flexibility to support the rapid expansion of AWS’s data centre network.

This investment builds on AWS’s earlier $2.7 billion commitment made in 2020 to establish its Hyderabad region. The city already hosts AWS’s second data centre region in India, after Mumbai, which became operational in 2022. With the latest funding, the Hyderabad region is set to emerge as a key hub for cloud computing, artificial intelligence, startups and government digital platforms across the country.

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy described the agreement as a strong endorsement of Telangana’s governance and long-term economic vision. He said the investment aligns with the Telangana Rising 2047 Vision and will significantly support the state’s ambition of becoming a $3 trillion economy.

IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu stated that the expansion would position Hyderabad as India’s data centre capital, driving growth in employment, innovation, AI and digital infrastructure. AWS India and South Asia President Sandeep Dutta added that the agreement reflects Amazon’s continued commitment to India’s digital transformation and its goal of making Telangana a global technology hub.
