Hyderabad: Geoff Martha, Chairman and CEO of Medtronic, delivered a keynote address at the Bio Asia Summit at Hyderabad, Telangana. He highlighted the significance of technology in healthcare, commending the efforts of all involved, particularly his colleagues at Medtronic. Martha expressed excitement about the advancements in healthcare, emphasizing the role of technology in creating new therapies to alleviate pain and improve patient health.
In his address, Martha discussed Medtronic's innovative approaches, such as using sensors to customize therapy for Parkinson's patients and introducing a new therapy for hypertension approved by the FDA. He also emphasized the impact of machine learning and deep learning in the medical technology industry, noting collaborations with states like Telangana, hospital systems, and tech companies.
Martha showcased examples like GI Genius, an AI-powered system to improve colonoscopy accuracy, and Hugo, a surgical robot aimed at democratizing surgery by reducing costs. He also introduced Touch Surgery Enterprise, which records surgical procedures for analysis and training purposes, highlighting its role in improving surgical techniques and breaking down geographic barriers.
Medtronic's commitment to serving patients was a central theme, with Martha stating that they currently serve two patients every second, aiming to increase this number to reach overall a billion patients.
