Tech Giant Rocked: Infosys Employee Arrested for Filming Colleague in Restroom

In a deeply disturbing incident, a 28-year-old Infosys employee was arrested this week after allegedly filming a female colleague inside a washroom at the company's sprawling Electronics City campus in Bengaluru. The swift action by law enforcement and Infosys underscores a zero-tolerance stance against such egregious violations of privacy.
The shocking event came to light on June 30 when the victim, whose identity is being protected, caught the perpetrator, Swapnil Nagesh Mali from Sangli, Maharashtra, in the act. The woman reportedly noticed a suspicious reflection while using the washroom. Her quick thinking led her to investigate, and she discovered Mali standing on the toilet seat, his phone positioned to record her through a gap in the cubicle. "She caught him red-handed," a police official confirmed, emphasizing the victim's bravery in confronting her assailant.
Upon being confronted, the woman immediately alerted other employees and members of the company's HR team. A subsequent examination of Mali's phone allegedly revealed video clips of the victim.
Sources indicate that Infosys launched an immediate internal investigation. The company reportedly urged Mali to apologize to the woman and her family, but the family firmly rejected any private settlement, choosing instead to pursue justice through legal channels. They filed a formal complaint with the Electronics City police on Tuesday.
"Based on the complaint, we arrested Swapnil Mali on Wednesday," stated Electronics City Police Inspector BG Naveen Kumar. Mali has been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for outraging a woman's modesty and invasion of privacy, charges that carry significant legal consequences.
Police are now digging deeper into the case, investigating whether Mali shared the illicit videos or if other employees were also unknowingly targeted. "We are also verifying if more women were affected and how long he had been engaging in this illegal act," Inspector Kumar added, highlighting the serious implications of such a breach of trust and privacy within a corporate environment.
In a statement released Wednesday, Infosys confirmed Mali's termination. "We are aware of this incident and have taken necessary action against the employee, who is now separated from the company," Infosys stated. The tech giant also emphasized its commitment to supporting the victim and cooperating with law enforcement: "We also promptly supported the complainant by facilitating a swift complaint with the law enforcement authorities and continue to cooperate as they investigate further. Infosys is committed to providing an environment free of harassment and has a zero-tolerance policy. We take every complaint related to any violation of the company’s code of conduct seriously."
