The central government has laid out new procedures to streamline grain distribution and bolster transparency in the public ration system. Under the updated framework, holders of ration cards must complete an electronic Know Your Customer (e-KYC) process by a fixed deadline or face suspension of free grain benefits.
Aadhaar-based verification now requires beneficiaries to link an active mobile number to their ration card before initiating e-KYC. Officials emphasize that OTP verification via the registered phone is mandatory; failure to update a changed number can block the KYC process and jeopardize access to subsidized wheat and rice.
To modify mobile details, cardholders should visit the National Food Security Portal at [https://nfsp.gov.in](https://nfsp.gov.in). After selecting the "Citizen Corner" section, users must choose "Register/Change Mobile Number", enter their Aadhaar and ration card numbers, and submit the new phone number.
Residents in areas with unreliable internet can file a paper application at local Food Department offices. The form, along with photocopies of the Aadhaar and ration card, will secure the mobile update through manual processing.
Remote e-KYC is accessible via the Mera KYC and Aadhaar FaceRD mobile apps. Users register their location, input their Aadhaar credentials and OTP, and select the face-based verification option. Once the camera capture is submitted, the system completes the e-KYC, enabling ration cardholders to continue receiving free grains.
Authorities urge all beneficiaries to complete both the mobile number update and e-KYC promptly to ensure uninterrupted access to subsidized food supplies.
