Arguably the most prominent franchise in the WPL, Mumbai Indians (MI) surely have their work cut out before WPL 2026 mega-auction. Having won the trophy in two of the three editions so far, it presents though a peculiar challenge for MI of rebuilding their core after several key releases.

With only five retentions being allowed, MI have retained the likes of Nat Sciver-Brunt, Harmanpreet Kaur, Hayley Matthews, Amanjot Kaur, and they have also retained an uncapped player, G Kamalini. The franchise thus enters the auction on November 27 with ₹5.75 crore still left in their purse. Their biggest priority? Reinforcing the all-rounder department — the engine room of their past dominance.

Here are three all-rounders MI should target to restore balance and firepower for the 2026 season.

1. Nadine de Klerk – The Underrated Match-Winner

South African star Nadine de Klerk could be MI’s redemption story. Despite being part of the MI squad in WPL 2025, she never got a chance to play — a decision the team might now regret. A pace-bowling all-rounder known for her composure under pressure, De Klerk has repeatedly proved her mettle in international cricket.

In the recent Women’s World Cup, she finished with a strike rate of 131.64 and nine wickets, emerging as South Africa’s third-highest wicket-taker. Her standout performance came against India, when she single-handedly turned the match with a blistering 84 off 54 balls.

With MI’s top order set, De Klerk’s ability to finish games and deliver key overs could make her a valuable late-order weapon.

2. Amelia Kerr – The Core MI Must Reclaim

Letting go of Amelia Kerr raised eyebrows across the WPL community. The New Zealand all-rounder has been MI’s quiet powerhouse — controlling the middle overs with her leg-spin and contributing vital runs in crunch situations.

Across her WPL career, Kerr has 437 runs and 40 wickets, including a Purple Cap-winning season (18 wickets) during MI’s title run. Her economy, consistency, and calm temperament make her the kind of all-rounder no champion team can afford to lose.

If MI get the chance, a buy-back move for Kerr should be top of their auction strategy.

3. Deandra Dottin – The Power Package

Veteran Deandra Dottin remains one of the most explosive T20 all-rounders in the world. Known for her fierce hitting and knack for breakthroughs, Dottin has scored over 5,300 runs and picked up nearly 150 wickets in T20s.

She adds more than just stats — her leadership and global franchise experience (in The Hundred, WPL, and Women’s CPL) make her a stabilizing influence in a youthful MI squad.

During her stint with Gujarat Giants last year, Dottin smashed 142 runs at a strike rate of 154.35 and bagged 9 wickets. With MI needing middle-order muscle and reliable bowling options, Dottin could be the perfect fit.
