IPL 2026: Sanju Samson Set To Join Delhi Capitals In Big Trade Deal With Rajasthan Royals – Report

In a major development ahead of the IPL 2026 auction, Sanju Samson is reportedly set to leave the Rajasthan Royals (RR) and join Delhi Capitals (DC) in what could be the first big trade deal of the season. According to multiple reports, Samson, who has represented RR for 11 seasons, requested the franchise to either trade him or release him into the upcoming mini-auction.
Sources indicate that RR and DC are in the final stages of negotiations for a player swap involving Sanju Samson and South African wicketkeeper-batter Tristan Stubbs.
Samson Requests Exit After Rift With Rajasthan Royals
As per reports, one of the major reasons behind Samson’s fallout with the Royals management was their decision to release former England captain Jos Buttler, a move that reportedly did not sit well with the RR skipper.
“With Samson clear on leaving the Royals, both DC and RR have been locked in negotiations and many tradable options were discussed. DC are keen to have Samson on board but were not willing to trade any of their core players.”
Initially, Delhi Capitals were reluctant to part ways with any of their key stars, but discussions appear to have progressed positively.
RR’s Interest in KL Rahul and Stubbs Deal Details
Reports also claim that Rajasthan Royals had shown interest in acquiring KL Rahul, but that proposal was immediately turned down by Delhi Capitals.
“KL Rahul’s name came up for discussions, but DC were reluctant to release a player who was a top performer last season and brings strong brand value. RR are happy with Stubbs but reportedly asked for another uncapped player, which DC declined,” the report added.
If the current negotiations are finalized, Sanju Samson could be back in Delhi colours — he had previously represented the franchise (then known as Delhi Daredevils) early in his IPL career.
CSK and KKR Out of the Race
For several months, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) were rumoured to be frontrunners for Samson’s signature. However, the talks reportedly fell through after RR demanded either Ravindra Jadeja or Ruturaj Gaikwad in return — an offer that CSK firmly rejected. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) were also briefly linked but have since withdrawn interest.
Unless there are last-minute changes, Sanju Samson is expected to join Delhi Capitals, marking one of the most significant player moves before the IPL 2026 auction.
