SK Das is appointed Member of GSTAT

Sunil Kumar Das, an Indian Revenue Service officer of 1986 batch, among others, has been appointed as Technical Member (Centre) in the newly instituted Goods and Services Tax Appellate Tribunal. Das earlier was the longest serving Chairman of the Customs, Central Excise and Service Tax Settlement Commission where he had served for more than three years in that capacity. He assumed office on September 01.

Institution of the Goods and Services Tax Appellate Tribunal was notified in February 2024 and the process of appointment of Members has been completed by the Central Government. This is a positive step towards quicker resolution of GST disputes and ease of doing business. Appeals arising out of orders- in- original, orders-in-appeal and Revisionary Orders passed by the departmental authorities shall lie before the GST Appellate Tribunal.
