Selling vegetables from the roadside cart and just about managing to run his family, 32-year-old Amit took a recent trip to Punjab wherein he borrowed a thousand rupees from his friend and purchased two lottery tickets—one for his wife and the other for himself. His wife’s ticket won a small prize of ₹1,000, while Amit’s ticket won the jackpot prize of ₹11 crore.
Post taxes and deductions, the amount that Amit is set to receive lies around ₹7.6 crore.
An unusual kind of luck notwithstanding, Amit remains grounded and philanthropic. He is willing to offer ₹50 lakhs to each of the two daughters of the friend who lent him the ₹1,000 for the ticket. He also needs to build a house, educate his children, and provide for the needs of his extended family.
