Puri is gearing up for the grand Jagannath Rath Yatra, beginning on June 27, 2025. This nine-day festival attracts millions of devotees, prompting extensive traffic management plans to ensure safety and smooth movement. Here’s everything you need to know about travel advisories, parking, routes, and shuttle services during the event.
Festival Overview
The Jagannath Rath Yatra sees the ceremonial procession of Lord Jagannath, his brother Lord Balabhadra, and sister Goddess Subhadra from the Jagannath Temple to the Gundicha Temple, where they stay for a week before returning. The festival is celebrated with great fervor, and the massive chariots of the deities are pulled by devotees amid festive crowds.
Traffic Management and Parking Arrangements
To manage the heavy influx of visitors, 21 parking spots have been designated, primarily around three major locations. Additionally, five ‘holding areas’ are arranged to accommodate crowds during peak times.
Authorities will also use mobile apps to provide real-time traffic updates to visitors. A multi-agency mock drill involving 11 agencies was recently conducted near the Jagannath Temple to ensure emergency preparedness.
