Public holiday on May 12: Schools, colleges, banks, and government offices to remain closed

A public holiday has been officially declared for Monday, May 12, across Uttar Pradesh in observance of Buddha Purnima. The state government has announced that all government offices, schools, colleges, and banks will remain closed on this day.
As per the annual holiday calendar of the Uttar Pradesh Basic Education Council (Prayagraj), all schools affiliated with or recognized by the council will remain closed. This includes institutions across districts, including Farrukhabad, where Buddha Purnima is widely observed.
Major government departments, including the District Magistrate’s office, Vikas Bhawan, Udyog Bhawan, and the Khadi Village Udyog Board, will also observe the holiday. Offices are scheduled to resume work on Tuesday, May 13.
Banks across the state, including branches of State Bank of India, Bank of Baroda, Union Bank, and others, will also remain shut as per the Bank Union’s holiday list. May 12 marks the full moon (Purnima) of the Shukla Paksha in the month of Vaishakh, a significant day in the Buddhist calendar.
