Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a two-day official visit to Japan from August 29–30, marking his first standalone visit in nearly seven years. His bilateral summit with Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba will focus on deepening the India–Japan Strategic and Global Partnership.

Key Highlights:

Investment Pledge: Tokyo is set to announce a record-breaking ¥10 trillion (~$68 billion) investment plan in India over the next decade, reinforcing the "Make in India" initiative.

Tech & Defense Collaboration: The summit will likely include a deal to introduce E10 Shinkansen bullet trains to India, with discussions around critical minerals, AI, semiconductors, and energy security under the Economic Security Initiative.

Security Framework Upgrade: India and Japan are expected to update the 2008 Declaration on Security Cooperation, aiming to enhance joint defense exercises, technology transfers, and strategic dialogue.

Quad Strategy & Regional Balance: The leaders will also discuss Quad-level cooperation and broader Indo-Pacific security priorities, as part of India’s balancing act amid global tariff pressures.

Following Japan, PM Modi will travel to China for the SCO Summit—his first China visit since 2018—highlighting India’s multi-pronged diplomatic outreach.
