PM Modi Vows Relentless Pursuit of Terrorists Behind Pahalgam Attack, Issues Strong Warning to the World

In a rare English address during a rally in Madhubani, Bihar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in the deaths of at least 26 tourists. Modi vowed to "identify, trace and punish every terrorist and their backers," declaring, "We will pursue them to the ends of the Earth." He emphasized that India's resolve is unwavering and that terrorism will not go unpunished. The Prime Minister also expressed gratitude to international leaders who have stood in solidarity with India during this crisis.
The attack, carried out by militants from the Pakistan-based group Lashkar-e-Taiba, targeted a group of tourists in the Baisaran Valley near Pahalgam. Indian authorities have identified Saifullah Kasuri, a senior commander of the group, as the mastermind behind the massacre. Security forces have launched a massive manhunt to apprehend those responsible.
In response to the attack, India has suspended the Indus Waters Treaty and closed its only land border crossing with Pakistan. Diplomatic ties have been downgraded, with Pakistan's defense advisers being ordered to leave and reductions in diplomatic staff in Islamabad. Protests have erupted outside the Pakistan embassy in New Delhi, while Pakistan's leadership convened a National Security Committee meeting to discuss their response.
International leaders, including U.S. President Donald Trump, French President Emmanuel Macron, and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, have condemned the attack and expressed solidarity with India. The United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and other world leaders have also denounced the violence and emphasized opposition to terrorism.
The Pahalgam attack is considered the deadliest on civilians in India in nearly two decades and is seen as a setback to Modi's efforts to bring stability to Kashmir following the revocation of its special status in 2019. The longstanding India-Pakistan conflict over Kashmir continues to strain relations, despite a recent increase in tourism and a decrease in insurgent violence.
