At the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in China, Prime Minister Narendra Modi issued a strong call for united global action against terrorism, separatism, and extremism, asserting that “no country, no society, no citizen can consider itself safe” from these threats. His remarks came in the presence of Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, making the message particularly pointed.

PM Modi on Terrorism: ‘No Double Standards’

Modi emphasized that peace, security, and stability are the foundations of development, warning that terrorism undermines progress everywhere.

Terrorism is not just a challenge to the security of a country but a common challenge for all of humanity. Any kind of double standard is not acceptable on the issue of terrorism,” he said.

Reference to Pahalgam Terror Attack

The Prime Minister recalled the recent Pahalgam terror attack that claimed several lives.

India has taken the lead in the fight against terror outfits like Al-Qaeda and its associates, and we oppose any kind of terror financing. I thank all friendly nations who stood with us,” Modi added.

India’s Vision: Reform, Perform, Transform

Highlighting India’s economic growth model, Modi said:

Today, India is moving ahead following the mantra of Reform, Perform and Transform. We have tried to turn every challenge into an opportunity, and I invite all of you to be part of India's development journey.

SCO’s Evolution and New Centres

Modi welcomed reforms within the SCO, noting the creation of four new centres to address issues such as organised crime, drug trafficking, and cyber security.

It is a matter of happiness that the SCO is evolving with the changing needs of the times. We welcome this reform-oriented mindset,” he stated.

Connectivity with Afghanistan and Central Asia

Reiterating India’s commitment to regional trade and trust-building, Modi stressed sovereignty-respecting connectivity projects such as Chabahar Port and the International North-South Transport Corridor.

Strong connectivity not only boosts trade but also opens doors to growth and trust,” he said, cautioning against projects that bypass national sovereignty.

Civilisation Dialogue Forum Announced

To promote cultural ties among SCO nations, Modi proposed a ‘Civilisation Dialogue Forum’:

It will provide a global stage to share our ancient civilisation, culture, traditions, and literature,” he noted.
