Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday met Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, the sole survivor of the tragic Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad that claimed at least 260 lives. The PM visited the Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad, where Ramesh is undergoing treatment along with 24 other injured victims.

Survivor Speaks from Hospital Bed

Ramesh, seated in 11A near an emergency exit on the Air India AI-171 Boeing 787 Dreamliner, miraculously escaped the deadly impact. Speaking from his hospital bed, the 40-year-old British national shared a chilling account:

“When I got up, there were bodies all around me. I stood up and ran. Someone grabbed me and put me in an ambulance.”

He was traveling to London with his brother after visiting family in India. It remains unclear whether he jumped out before the aircraft crashed.

PM Modi Reviews Medical Treatment, Meets Doctors

PM Modi, accompanied by Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu and Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi, visited the C7 ward to personally assess the condition of the survivors. He also held a review meeting with hospital authorities and interacted with the medical team treating the injured.

Ground Visit to Crash Site

Earlier in the day, Modi visited the crash site near Ahmedabad International Airport, where the AI-171 flight to London Gatwick tragically went down just 33 seconds after takeoff on Thursday. The aircraft collided with a nearby medical college hostel, causing significant destruction.

Death Toll and Nationalities on Board

The crash resulted in 260 fatalities, including:

169 Indian nationals

53 British nationals

7 Portuguese nationals

1 Canadian national

Official Probe Underway

The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has launched a formal investigation into the crash. Union Minister Ram Mohan Naidu confirmed that a detailed report will follow once black box data and flight logs are analyzed.
