In a manner that is fitting for a momentous occasion, Ayodhya has today seen Prime Minister Narendra Modi raise the saffron ‘Dharma Dhwaj’ at the Ram Temple, thereby officially closing the grand structure. The ceremony takes place 22 months after the Prime Minister performed the Pran Pratistha of Ram Lalla in January 2024.

The flag that measures 10x20 feet is decorated with the symbols of the Sun, the sacred ‘Om’, and the Kovidara tree, and it stands for bravery, morality, and the divine power of Lord Ram. The Dhwaja was made under the supervision of a specialist in Ahmedabad who ensured it could endure the high-altitude winds at the 191-foot temple peak.

The sacred event took place on Vivah Panchami, the day which is considered to be the anniversary of the divine marriage between Lord Ram and Goddess Sita, thus contributing to its already big religious significance.

Thousands Gather for the Grand Celebration

Nearly 7,000 special invitees, including dignitaries from diverse backgrounds, temple workers, donors, and community representatives, attended the ceremony. Notable attendees included RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and Governor Anandiben Patel.

Many invitees were from middle and lower-middle-income backgrounds, emphasising inclusivity. Devotees travelled from across India, expressing gratitude and calling the moment a culmination of generations of devotion and struggle.

PM Modi Performs Rituals at Saptmandir

Before the flag hoisting, PM Modi visited and offered prayers at key temple complexes, including:

  • Saptmandir
  • Sheshavtar Mandir
  • Mata Annapurna Mandir
  • Ram Darbar Garbh Grah
  • Ram Lalla Garbh Grah

The Ram Temple complex now spans 2.7 acres and includes 14 newly built temples, elaborate carvings, bells, a towering shikhara, and meticulously planned pathways for devotees.

Ayodhya Transforms into a Festival Ground

The city has been decorated with:

  • Floral installations
  • Rangolis
  • Laser light shows
  • Traditional performances

Bands from 12 states, Vedic chantings by Gurukul students, and cultural performances set a devotional atmosphere.

Security has been intensified with 7000 personnel deployed and heavy barricading across entry points. The ceremony is being broadcast live nationwide on Doordarshan and multiple media platforms.

Voices from Ayodhya

Devotees, artists, and temple workers praised the event:

“This Dhwajarohan is a re-establishment of the pride of our civilization,” said VHP representative Sagun Srivastava.

“It is a day that comes once in a Yuga,” said another devotee.

UP Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak called it the culmination of thousands of years of faith and struggle.
