On July 29, 2025, Parliament’s Monsoon Session entered its seventh day, spotlighting a tense debate over Operation Sindoor—India’s retaliatory action following the brutal Pahalgam terror attack. With both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha holding prolonged discussions, the day witnessed intense exchanges between the ruling party and the opposition.

Highlights from the Proceedings

Home Minister Amit Shah addressed the Lok Sabha, confirming that three terrorists—Suleman, Afghan, and Jibran—were killed in Operation Mahadev, a joint effort by Army, CRPF, and J&K Police. Their identities were verified by detained individuals and forensic evidence. He firmly defended Operation Sindoor and condemned Pakistan’s actions in retaliation.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh initiated a 16-hour debate in the Rajya Sabha, urging Opposition members not to politicize the operation and emphasizing national resolve.

Rahul Gandhi, speaking in the Lok Sabha, recounted meeting Pahalgam victims’ families and emphasized bipartisan support for the armed forces while demanding accountability for security lapses.

Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of the Opposition, demanded the Home Minister’s resignation over what he termed a major intelligence failure. His remarks sparked a fiery response from BJP MPs, and a heated exchange with JP Nadda ended with an apology following Nadda’s contentious comment.

Leaders from parties like DMK, SP, and TMC accused the government of using Operation Mahadev’s timing as political theatre—particularly Congress leader Udit Raj’s condemnation of it as “event management.”

Akhilesh Yadav criticized the government’s foreign policy and questioned delayed action, stating that ceasefire announcements by the U.S. hinted at diplomatic compromise.

The session continued with Prime Minister Modi expected to address both Houses around 7 PM, delivering the government’s closing remarks on national security and counterterrorism.
