In the aftermath of the brutal terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives, political developments continued to unfold across the country.

Security has been intensified nationwide, including the closure of the Attari-Wagah border near Amritsar on Monday, April 28, 2025, as part of measures announced by the Government of India.

Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly passed a resolution condemning the attack, expressing deep shock and grief. Lawmakers observed a two-minute silence in memory of the victims and pledged to resist any attempts to disrupt communal harmony and development in the region.

On the directions of the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Centre banned 16 Pakistani YouTube channels accused of spreading provocative, communally sensitive misinformation and false narratives against India, its Army, and security agencies, particularly after the Pahalgam incident. Additionally, the government conveyed its concerns to Jackie Martin, BBC India head, over the broadcaster's coverage of the attack, according to an official source.

Tensions remain high along the Line of Control (LoC), with Pakistani forces violating the ceasefire for the fourth consecutive day in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch and Kupwara sectors, Army officials said.

In another major development, RJD MP Manoj Jha has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling for a special session of Parliament to openly discuss the implications of the Pahalgam attack and reinforce national unity.

Speaking to reporters, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor emphasized the need for a strong, clear response to the attack. "There must be a message — acts of terror will come at a cost. Without it, such incidents will continue," he said.

Meanwhile, Sunil Sharma, Leader of Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, appealed to citizens to have unwavering faith in PM Modi’s leadership. "The Pahalgam terror attack will be avenged. This government has shown its willpower in the past, and will not stay silent now," Sharma said while supporting the Assembly’s resolution.

Adding to tensions within Kashmir, regional parties voiced opposition on Sunday, April 27, 2025, against the ongoing demolition drive targeting the homes of suspected terrorists, following the controlled dismantling of 10 houses by security forces.
