Mumbai weather news: The southwest Mumbai monsoon landed in Mumbai early on the Monday of this week, two days after establishing its presence in Kerala it was the first ever recorded arrival of the city for at least 75 years.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an IMD Mumbai yellow alert when several city areas registered more than 200 mm of Mumbai rainfall may 2025 between the forecast for heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and strong winds are predicted to hit Mumbai, Thane, Raigad and Ratnagiri districts beginning on Sunday at midnight until Monday afternoon.

Metro line operations ceased when water flooded an underground station.

Data from Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's automated weather station displayed rainfall exceeding 200 mm in various areas from Sunday midnight to Monday morning (11.30 am). The data indicates that Nariman Point station received 252 mm of rainfall followed by Colaba with 207 mm, Worli with 171 mm, Do Taki station with 202 mm, Byculla (E ward office) with 213 mm, Memonwada with 183 mm, Marine Lines and Chandanwadi area with 180 mm.

In accordance with IMD data IMD data, IMD data shows that the Colaba Observatory recorded 144 mm of rain between 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM on Monday. Santacruz had received 33 millimeters over the same time.

On Monday, Colaba station recorded 295 millimeters of rain this month which broke a record set 107 years ago to make it the Mumbai orange alert weather since the year 1918 when Colaba station recorded 279.4 millimeters.

The current rainfall pattern indicates monsoon activity. South Mumbai's Colaba tip saw exceptionally intense morning rainfall because of heavy precipitation in the Raigad district area.
