“Mumbai Cha Raja” Rohit Sharma Chants Go Viral During Messi Event

Lionel Messi converted Mumbai into a futsal fair on Sunday, as the city staged the second leg of the GOAT India Tour 2025. The Argentine legend graced the iconic Wankhede Stadium with some really unforgettable moments with cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar, Indian football caption Sunil Chhetri, bridging sports of greatness into an age-old but historic crossover.

India came alive in Wankhede in honor of Messi; they moved up and gave their love to Rohit Sharma.

"Mumbai cha Raja, Rohit Sharma; India cha Raja, Rohit Sharma" chanted from the stands, demonstrating the intense regard of the fans for their homeboy.

Messi maybe not of met Sharma, but the night turned memorable indeed with one-time sighting of two globally acclaimed sports legends; Lionel Messi and Sachin Tendulkar.

Speaking at the function, Tendulkar coined Messi's Mumbai visit as a “golden moment” for both the city and the country. Comparing it with the 2011 ODI World Cup triumph of India, Tendulkar expressed his numerous, varied, and happy emotions attached to the ground.

“Some great moments have been spent here. Mumbai is called the city of dreams, and many dreams have culminated at this place.”

Tendulkar added, “Without your support, we would never have experienced those golden moments on this ground in 2011."

Heaping praise upon the man from Argentina now seen with Inter Miami stars Luis Suárez and Rodrigo De Paul, Tendulkar said:

"This is a once-in-a-lifetime moment where all three are present in Mumbai, in front of Mumbaikars, and the people of the country. It's simply memorable, the way the greats of the game were received by the crowds."

There is a bond between the two sportsmen that goes far deeper than ribbing or bantering; this bond promises to last only a lifetime. Sachin wasn't quite sure what to say about the Argentine:

"Leo's just beyond words. What can I add about him, as a player? He's already completed everything. We've been watching him with insurmountable respect for his hard work, dedication and commitment."
