MP High Court Directs FIR Against Minister Vijay Shah Over Remarks on Army Officer Col Sofia Qureshi
MP High Court orders FIR against Minister Vijay Shah for calling Army officer Col Sofiya Qureshi a "terrorist’s sister"; sparks major controversy.
The state government has been ordered by the Madhya Pradesh High Court to file a First Information Report (FIR) against BJP politician and Tribal Affairs Minister Kunwar Vijay Shah for his divisive comments against Colonel Sofiya Qureshi. The FIR must be submitted within four hours of the court's ruling.
Shah's characterization of Colonel Qureshi as a "terrorist's sister," which has been widely denounced as unfounded and slanderous, is the source of the controversy. A famous commander in the Indian Army, Colonel Qureshi is known for her role in the 2025 India-Pakistan confrontation and her leadership in UN peacekeeping missions.
Shah apologized for his comments after facing political and public criticism, especially from opposition parties. However, highlighting the gravity of the public official's defamatory statement, the High Court took suo motu cognizance of the case.
This move demonstrates the judiciary's resolve to hold public leaders responsible for their remarks, particularly when they concern members of the country's armed forces.
