Memorial for former President Pranab Mukherjee approved at 'Rashtriya Smriti' complex

The government has approved the establishment of a memorial for former President Pranab Mukherjee within the 'Rashtriya Smriti' complex, a part of the Rajghat precinct in Delhi.
Pranab Mukherjee, who passed away on August 31, 2020, will be honored with a designated site for a Samadhi within the revered complex. The decision was formally communicated to his daughter, Sharmistha Mukherjee, via an official letter.
Following the announcement, Sharmistha Mukherjee met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday to express her heartfelt gratitude.
In a social media post on X, Sharmistha shared her appreciation, stating, “Called on Hon'ble PM Narendra Modi ji to express thanks and gratitude from the core of my heart for his government's decision to create a memorial for Baba. It's more cherished considering that we didn’t ask for it.”
She also highlighted her father’s values, adding, “Baba used to say that State honours shouldn’t be asked for, they should be offered. I’m so grateful that PM Modi did this to honor Baba’s memory. Words are not sufficient to express my joy.”
Sharmistha shared photos from her meeting with the prime minister and a copy of the government’s letter. She described the gesture as “unexpected but truly gracious.”
The memorial will serve as a tribute to the contributions and legacy of Pranab Mukherjee, who served as India’s 13th president from 2012 to 2017.
