Residents of West Bengal will face a three-day bank holiday starting May 9, 2025, due to the observance of Rabindranath Tagore’s birth anniversary, followed by the second Saturday and Sunday. During this period, banking services across the state will be unavailable.

May 9, 2025: The first closure will be in honor of Rabindranath Tagore’s birth anniversary, known locally as Rabindra Jayanti. This is a key cultural observance in West Bengal, recognizing the life and works of the famous poet and Nobel laureate. Banks, along with government offices and numerous private establishments, will remain closed as the public engages in events, performances, and literary discussions in tribute to Tagore.

May 10, 2025: As part of the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) standard holiday schedule, all banks in the state will observe the second Saturday closure. This nationwide policy mandates that banks close every second and fourth Saturday of each month, affecting West Bengal’s banking services as well.

May 11, 2025: The final closure for the three-day span will be due to the regular Sunday holiday. As with most Sundays, banking operations will remain suspended throughout the state.

With the combined closures, customers will have limited access to banking services from May 9 through May 11. ATM services and online banking will continue to function normally, though customers needing in-person banking services should plan accordingly.
