Martyrs' Day 2026 honors the bravery and sacrifice of India’s soldiers and freedom fighters, reminding the nation of their enduring legacy and the true cost of freedom.
India on March 23 observed Martyrs’ Day. The day is celebrated to paying tribute to the give up and courage of the nation’s bravehearts. The soldiers have laid down their lives for security and liberty. The day also marks the martyrdom of three iconic freedom fighters
- Bhagat Singh,
- Shivaram Rajguru,
- Sukhdev Thapar
On March 23 1931, these three were executed by British colonial rulers.

Across India, leaders, citizens, government and private organisations came together to honour the legacy of the army soldiers with national ceremonies for martyrs in India.Ceremonies are organized at historical memorials, schools, and government institutions. Everyone is providing the flowery tributes to them and patriotic songs are echoed.
On the event of Shaheed Diwas 23 March, PM Narendra Modi paid tribute to to Bhagat Singh Rajguru Sukhdev by remembering their sacrifice and dedication towards India.The PM also focused on the significance of preserving their ideals and working towards a stronger and better India.
PM said, “Today, we bow in reverence to the brave sons of Bharat Mata Their martyrdom for the nation remains etched in our collective memory.”
He also added in his tribute that at a very young age, they showed courage and strong commitment to India’s liberty, choosing sacrifice over personal security. Their ideals of patriotism and justice are always inspiring people across the country.
Several political leaders also shared messages honouring the martyrs on this day.
