As the Mahakumbh 2025 begins tomorrow in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, a massive multi-layered security system has been put in place to ensure the safety of over 45 crore visitors attending this grand religious event. The Mahakumbh, held once every 12 years, will run from January 13 to February 26, bringing together pilgrims from across the globe.
Comprehensive Security Measures
Under the leadership of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, stringent security protocols have been established to safeguard the city and its surrounding areas, including temples, akharas, and key routes. Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Prashant Kumar assured the public of the state police's commitment to ensuring a safe environment.
Key measures include:
Circular Security System: 102 checkpoints established along seven major routes to monitor and control entry points.
Manpower Deployment: Over 1,000 police personnel, including 71 inspectors, 234 sub-inspectors, 645 constables, and 113 Home Guards/PRD jawans, are actively involved in maintaining security.
24/7 Patrolling: Equipped with five Vajra vehicles, 10 drones, and four anti-sabotage teams.
Advanced Technology for Vigilance
Modern technology has been integrated into the security framework:
AI-Enabled Cameras: 2,700 artificial intelligence-powered cameras installed across the event area for real-time surveillance.
Underwater Drones: 113 drones will monitor the waterways, ensuring safety in and around the Sangam.
Collaboration and Mock Drills
Preparedness for potential threats has been enhanced through collaborative mock drills conducted by the National Security Guard (NSG), Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC), and UP Police.
“Impenetrable Chakravyuh” Security
A robust, multi-layered security system, referred to as an "impenetrable chakravyuh," has been designed to protect critical areas and installations, ensuring the safety of all participants.
