LPG Gas Price Drop: Assam Offers Cylinders at Just ₹300 for Citizens

The announcement made by the Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, to this effect on December 2 was very welcome as the cost of commodities was rising. An immediate relaxation, however, has been provided to the state as the gas cylinders will soon be available for ₹300 only. Officials confided that the final procedural tracking is being compiled and thereby implemented in short order-indeed, it brings relief to a thousand hard-pressed households across the state.
Input Benefits of PMUY and Orunodoi
The government can also offer a subsidy of ₹250 to PMUY-backed and Orunodoi scheme-aligned families who will benefit from the LPG cylinders. It has been commented by CM Sarma himself: "The step would bring affordable LPG to a reality for lakhs of families and they would get support for the first time, especially the downtrodden and womenfolk, being the principal recipients of these programs."
How the Scheme Will Help Families
The assistance shall be transferred to eligible beneficiaries duly abiding by the PMUY scheme of the Central Government. Leading to huge savings against living costs such as taxes, Assam vigorously helps in saving the economic life of both urban and rural underprivileged, for whom the consumption of subsidized LPG is a daily consumable commodity.
About Orunodoi Scheme
The state of Assam has launched the Orunodoi Scheme to render monthly cash assistance to eligible families who happen to be below the poverty line in order to let them tide over their needs. Integration of the LPG subsidy with the said scheme is aimed at further shielding citizens from high fluctuating prices of cooking gas and will assist in enhancing quality of life.
Next Steps and Implementation
While no official release date has been formally decided, talks are ongoing between officials to finalize the mechanism for the Food and Civil Supplies Department to walk along with the Social Welfare Department and make the subsidy distribution a smooth affair. Under this initiative, a number of forward-thinking states are leading by example when it comes to subsidies against fuel price hikes by providing a tangible solution that directly helps its citizens in their day-to-day living.
