Kolkata Law Student Alleges Gang-Rape, Hockey Stick Assault by TMC-Linked Accused Inside Campus

A 24-year-old first-year law student at South Calcutta Law College on June 25 accused two senior students and an alumnus of gang-raping her in the college's guard room, after she rejected a marriage proposal from the alleged ringleader — former student and staff member Monojit Mishra — who is linked to the Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) .

In her detailed complaint, the survivor recounted being locked inside the room, struck with a hockey stick, and forced into sexual assault while the other two—19-year-old Zaib Ahmed and 20-year-old Pramit Mukherjee—watched . She pleaded, even touching the main accused’s feet, but was ignored and threatened—including with death to her boyfriend and false criminal charges against her parents .

The perpetrators also recorded the assault and used the footage to blackmail her. She sustained injuries including bite marks, scratches, and head wounds, which were confirmed by police and medical examinations.

All three accused have been arrested and remanded in police custody until July 1 as investigations continue . The National Commission for Women has taken suo-motu cognisance, and the case has sparked public outrage and political controversy .

Amid accusations targeting campus safety and political influence in educational institutions, the Trinamool Congress has stated Mishra is no longer affiliated with TMCP , while the BJP has criticized the state government for failing to protect women.
