Karnataka Extends Dasara Holidays Till Oct 18 for Social & Educational Survey

The Karnataka government has extended Dasara holidays for government and aided schools until October 18 to allow teachers to complete the ongoing Social and Educational Survey.
Initially scheduled to conclude on October 8, the survey, conducted by the Karnataka State Commission for Backward Classes, faced delays as teachers found it challenging to balance classroom teaching with data collection. In response, the government granted the extension and announced that the eight lost working days will be made up later.
Survey Highlights:
Survey progress varies across districts: 97% completion in Koppal, 67% in Dakshina Kannada
A total of 1.6 lakh enumerators, including 1.2 lakh teachers, are participating
Pre-university lecturers are exempt from the survey due to exams
Bengaluru teachers are visiting 10–15 households each, aiming to complete their work by October 20
The government has also announced ₹20 lakh compensation for families of three teachers who tragically passed away during the survey
This extension ensures that teachers can focus on both education and the survey without compromising either responsibility.
