Authorities have declared Wednesday, July 18, a vacation for schools, universities, and anganwadis in many districts of Karnataka as the region continues to experience intense rains. In reaction to extreme weather and growing safety concerns, the decision was made.
Disturbances Affected
In Madikeri, Virajpet, and Somwarpet, a one-day holiday has been announced by the Kodagu District Commissioner. Schools, colleges, and anganwadis are among the private and public institutions covered by the mandate.
The Udupi District Commissioner has also declared that all of the area's schools will be closed because of the persistent rain and flooding risks.
Updates on Karnataka Rainfall
In Karnataka, the monsoon season has been quite active, particularly in the interior and coastal regions. Among the significant updates are:
- Waterlogging and small-scale landslides have been recorded in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi, leading to extensive shutdowns.
- Kodagu and Shivamogga, two interior regions, are on high alert as key dams' water levels get closer to their maximum capacity, prompting flood control measures.
- Red alerts have been issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for a number of regions, warning of exceptionally high rainfall and severe winds in the days ahead.
Online Courses & Student Guidance
While most schools are still closed, some private schools can decide to provide classes online. We encourage parents and students to:
- Keep in contact with school officials for up-to-date information.
- Adhere to the safety instructions provided by local authorities.
- Monitor local news and IMD alerts for weather developments.
