Speaking on August 28, 2024, Ranaut suggested that Rahul Gandhi should undergo a drug test, criticizing him as a "mess" in his speeches and conduct. She accused Gandhi of lacking a clear vision as a leader and only "chasing a chair."

Ranaut also discussed her upcoming film Emergency, which portrays the life of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. She described Gandhi's life as a "grand Shakespearean tragedy," emphasizing the dramatic and complex nature of her political career. Ranaut's film, which she has written, directed, and produced, explores the reasons behind and the consequences of the Emergency period in India. The film has faced criticism from Sikh organizations but is expected to be released next month after several delays.


In comparing her film to Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer, Ranaut highlighted the complex portrayal of its protagonist, questioning whether the character is being manipulated or is manipulative. She drew parallels between Indira Gandhi's tragic life and the film's narrative style.
