Jivascope wins the India national stage of James Dyson Award 2025

Kolkata-based Tunir Sahoo has been announced as the national winner of India for the James Dyson Award 2025. His innovation, JivaScope, is a pocket-sized, AI-powered device that enables anyone to self-screen for heart and lung diseases in minutes, bringing clinical-grade diagnostics to rural and low-resource settings. The India national winner will receive prize money of approximately Rs6 lakh (£5,000).
The James Dyson Award (JDA) invites students from 30 countries to create ingenious solutions using straightforward yet effective engineering principles. The 2025 edition in India was a showcase of remarkable ingenuity, with young engineers presenting innovative solutions to real-world problems.
Tunir Sahoo, National Winner of India for the James Dyson Award 2025 said, I was inspired to create JivaScope during field visits to rural Bihar, where I saw patients waiting days for basic chest exams and just one doctor serving thousands.
