Good news for festive season travellers! Indian Railways has introduced the ‘Round Trip Scheme’ under IRCTC, offering passengers a 20% discount on the base fare of return journey tickets. The move comes ahead of Diwali and Chhath festivals to ease congestion and ensure hassle-free bookings.
🔹 What is the Round Trip Scheme?
Applicable for journeys during October–December 2025.
- Onward trip: 13 October – 26 October 2025
- Return trip: 17 November – 1 December 2025
- Discount: 20% off on the base fare of the return ticket.
- Not valid on trains under Flexi or Dynamic fare system.
This initiative is expected to provide relief to lakhs of passengers traveling during the festival rush.
🔹 How to Book Onward Journey via IRCTC Rail Connect App
- Open the IRCTC Rail Connect Mobile App and tap on “Train”.
- Select “Festival Round Trip” on the booking screen.
- Read and accept the Terms & Conditions of the scheme.
- Search for trains between 13–26 October 2025 for the onward journey.
- Choose a train (excluding Flexi/Dynamic fare trains) with Confirmed Availability (CNF).
- Enter passenger details for both onward and return journeys (no changes allowed later).
- Proceed to payment and confirm booking.
- Receive the PNR for the onward journey, along with the option to book the return journey at a discounted fare.
🔹 How to Book Return Journey Under the Scheme
- From the Booking Confirmation Page or My Bookings section, tap on “Book Return Journey (20% Discount)”.
- Check scheme details and confirm.
- Search for return trains between 17 November – 1 December 2025.
- Select train and class (excluding Flexi/Dynamic fare trains).
- Ensure passenger details exactly match the onward booking.
- Verify discounted fare (20% off) and proceed to payment.
- Upon payment, a PNR for the return journey will be generated.

- Return ticket discount applies only if booked under the Round Trip Scheme.
- Source and destination stations must remain the same for both journeys.
- Passenger details cannot be modified once the onward ticket is booked.
