From July 15, 2025, Indian Railways will require Aadhaar-based OTP authentication for all Tatkal ticket bookings, whether online, at PRS counters, or via authorised agents. This step aims to curb misuse by touts and bulk-booking agents, ensuring fair access for genuine passengers.
The reforms began on July 1, when IRCTC mandated Aadhaar authentication on user accounts to qualify for Tatkal bookings—linking a mobile number to Aadhaar and verifying it via OTP. Now, the additional OTP step will be required each time a Tatkal ticket is booked .
Authorized agents are also affected: between 10–10:30 AM for AC classes and 11–11:30 AM for non-AC, only individuals—not agents—can make bookings, reducing agent dominance during peak booking windows.
How to Link Aadhaar on IRCTC (Online)
Log in to IRCTC app or website.
Go to Profile → Link Aadhaar or My Account → Authenticate User.
Enter Aadhaar number/name as on card; click Send OTP.
Enter OTP received on Aadhaar-linked mobile.
Consent and click Verify → Update; confirmation will follow.
Ensure your Aadhaar-linked mobile is active and reachable before the Tatkal window opens to avoid booking delays.
