IPL 2024: Suryakumar Yadav joins Mumbai Indians squad

Mumbai: Mumbai Indians (MI) were handed a boost ahead of their Indian Premier League (IPL) match against the Delhi Capitals (DC) when star batter Suryakumar Yadav joined the team’s practice session at the Wankhede Stadium.

Mumbai Indians will host the Delhi Capitals at the Wankhede Stadium on April 7.

Two days ahead of the clash, the team had a training session in the afternoon at Wankhede Stadium and Suryakumar Yadav looked at ease during the complete training session.

He arrived earlier than all his teammates and spent some time soaking in the atmosphere. He spent close to an hour, batting in the nets, playing his trademark shots all across the ground.

Following his long batting session, the Mumbai Indians batter did some training and mobility drills followed by catching up with his teammates.

He also had long discussions with MI head coach Mark Boucher, batting coach Kieron Pollard during the course of the practice session.

Suryakumar is returning after recuperating from an injury that has seen him out of action from December 2023. He suffered a grade 2 tear to his ankle and later went under the knife for a sports hernia issue.

Suryakumar was monitored closely by the BCCI medical team at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru and was cleared to return to competitive cricket in his third fitness test.

His return is expected to give the Mumbai Indians a huge boost in their batting as they have had a horrid start to their IPL campaign. The five-time champions lost all their three matches they have played so far to sit at the bottom of points table in the 10-team league.

The MI team went to Jamnagar for a short break for a few days and assembled in Mumbai on April 5, ahead of their match against DC.
