Delhi Capitals ran into a marauding Kolkata Knight Riders and went down by a whopping 106 runs in their Indian Premier League (IPL) match at Visakhapatnam on Wednesday. Making matters worse for the Delhi team, the entire team had to cough up a fine for maintaining a slow over rate during the match.

This is the second time Delhi Capitals are committing an over-rate offence. Subsequently, their skipper Rishabh Pant was fined INR 24 lakh, while the rest of the playing XI, including the impact substitute, was fined either INR 6 lakh or 25 percent of their match fee, whichever was lesser.

A statement from the IPL governing body confirmed the offence. “Rishabh Pant, the Delhi Capitals captain, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam, on April 3,” the statement read.

It added that, as it was the second offence, the entire team had to pay a fine. “As it was his team’s second offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences, Pant was fined INR 24 lakhs. The rest of the members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, were each individually fined either INR 6 lakhs or 25 percent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser,” the statement added.

If Delhi Capitals maintain a slow over rate for another match, which would be the third offence in the season, the captain will be fined INR 30 lakh and will also undergo a one match suspension for the offence. The entire team will be fined INR 12 lakh or 50% of their match fee, whichever is lesser.
