IPL 2024 MI vs CSK: Dhoni, Rohit embrace after pulsating match

Mumbai Indians’ Rohit Sharma and Chennai Super Kings’ MS Dhoni were involved in a heartwarming gesture after CSK beat MI by 20 runs in their Indian Premier League (IPL) match at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday.

After Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shivan Dube and Dhoni propelled CSK beyond the 200-run mark, MI were on course to overhaul the target until Matheesha Pathirana had other ideas. The wily speedster picked up four wickets to derail MI’s chase.

However, former MI skipper Rohit Sharma held fort at one end and smashed a century, his first in IPL 2024 and eighth in T20 ticket, but ran out of partners and steam in the end. He finished on an unbeaten 105 from 63 balls, as MI finished on 186, falling short by 20 runs.

Although Rohit tried to keep up with the asking rate, regular wickets falling at the other end did not help as he was waging a lone battle.

Post the match, Dhoni walked up to Rohit, and the two embraced in a bear hug. The former CSK skipper had words of praise for his former Indian teammate and patted his back to lift up the spirits.

The photo of both Rohit and Dhoni after the match is doing viral rounds on social media.

Post the match too, Dhoni and Rohit were seen having a long conversation, with some laughs. The former MI skipper looked relaxed, and with many Indian teammates around, it was a reunion of sorts after a scintillating match.
