Andre Russell became the fastest player to hit 200 sixes in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batter achieved the feat during his unbeaten 64 off just 25 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) over the weekend.

Russell smacked the SRH bowlers to all corners of the park and sent the ball beyond the ropes seven times. In the process, he also became the ninth player to record 200 sixes in the history of the IPL.

He replaced compatriot Chris Gayle at the top of the sixes leaderboard. The list has illustrious names such as Kieron Pollard, AB de Villiers, MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma.

Meanwhile, KKR’s Sunil Narine and Delhi Capitals’ David Warner are a part of another illustrious list of foreign players who have played the maximum number of IPL games. The others in the top-five are Kieron Pollard, AB de Villiers and Dwayne Bravo. With the trio not playing in the cash-rich league anymore, Narine and Warner can add a few more games to go to the top of the leaderboard.

Mumbai Indians bowler Jasprit Bumrah also got onto the record books when he registered his 17th three-wicket haul during his 3/14 spell against Gujarat Titans. The wily speedster is now the holder of the most number of three-wicket hauls in the history of the league.

Bumrah accounted for veteran Wriddhiman Saha, Sai Sudarshan and David Miller to put GT into a spot of trouble.

Also, Bumrah is just two wickets shy of the 150 wickets mark in the IPL. He has picked up 148 wickets in 121 matches, with an average of 22.92 and a strike rate of 18.69.

Given the form the pacer is in, Bumrah could well register another record in Mumbai’s next match.

Afghanistan’s Azmatullah Omarzai became the second player and the first overseas player to make an IPL debut on his birthday. Omarzai, a new-ball bowler for GT, received his IPL cap on his special day.

The first player was Vikrant Yeligati, who made his MI debut against CSK in the inaugural edition of the league.
