IPL 2024: Chennai Super Kings’ Devon Conway ruled out, Richard Gleeson added to CSK squad

Chennai Super Kings batter Devon Conway has been ruled out of the IPL 2024 due to an injury. Richard Gleeson has been added to the CSK squad as Conway’s replacement.

Conway did not feature in any of the matches for the franchise in the ongoing season.

The New Zealand batter represented Chennai Super Kings, for his base price of INR 1 crore, over the course of the last two IPL seasons. The left-handed batter scored 924 runs in 23 matches in the IPL at an average of 46.12 with a strike rate of 141.28. His highest score is an unbeaten 92.

Conway’s replacement Richard Gleeson has played six T20s and has taken nine wickets for his country. However, in the domestic circuit, Gleeson has played 90 T20s and picked 101 wickets.

He will join CSK for his reserve price of INR 50 lakh.

Conway underwent surgery on his left thumb after injuring himself during the second T20 against Australia in Auckland on February 23.

He subsequently missed the first Test against Australia in February, and after further medical examination, he has been advised to go under the knife.

New Zealand head coach Gary Stead confirmed the surgery news and said Conway needed eight weeks for recovery. “Devon Conway has a small fracture in the joint of his thumb. So, he will undergo a surgery and hopefully he will be good in about eight weeks,” Stead said during an interaction in February.
