India launched Operation Sindoor after a terror attack in Pahalgam. More than 100 Pakistani terrorists were killed. People across India are happy with the result. Families of the victims feel that justice is done.

Now, let’s look at the wars between India and Pakistan:

1947 War

  • This was the first war after India became free.
  • Pakistan-backed fighters came into Kashmir.
  • The war lasted for over 12 months.
  • India pushed them back, but Pakistan kept part of Kashmir (now called PoK).
  • The United Nations helped stop the war and set the Line of Control (LoC).

1965 War

  • The second war was again about Kashmir.
  • Pakistan started it with Operation Gibraltar.
  • The war lasted 17 days.
  • India entered Pakistani land and took important places.
  • Later, both sides returned the land after the Tashkent Agreement.

1971 War

  • This war led to the birth of Bangladesh.
  • Bangladesh was earlier called East Pakistan.
  • Pakistan’s army attacked people there.
  • India helped and won in just 13 days.
  • 93,000 Pakistani soldiers surrendered.
  • Bangladesh became a new country.

1999 Kargil War

  • Pakistani soldiers and terrorists entered Indian land.
  • India started Operation Vijay to push them out.
  • The war lasted 83 days.
  • India took back all the land.

Other Big Events

  • 2001–2002: Attack on Indian Parliament.
  • 2019: India did a Balakot airstrike after the Pulwama attack.
  • 2020–2021: Small fights on the India-Pakistan border.
